Recall Date: Oct 24, 2024
Safety Issue:

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, 3500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, 2021 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with diesel engines. The transmission control valve may fail and cause the rear wheels to lock-up.

Potential Risk:
Rear wheel lock-up can increase the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will install new transmission control module software, free of charge. GM will provide a special coverage program to cover the repair of transmissions that are identified by the remedy software as containing a defective control valve. Recall Date: Feb 1, 2024
Safety Issue:

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 3500, GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 vehicles equipped with power-unlatching tailgates. The tailgate's electronic gate-release switch may short circuit due to water intrusion, which can result in the tailgate inadvertently unlatching while the vehicle is in park.

Potential Risk:
An unlatched tailgate may open while driving and result in a loss of unsecured cargo, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Owners are advised to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving. Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 17, 2024. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. 3.2K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Sep 29, 2021
Safety Issue:

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, Silverado 3500, GMC Sierra 2500, and Sierra 3500 vehicles with electronic brake control modules (EBCM) replaced during vehicle assembly. The bolts that attach the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) assembly may not be properly tightened, which could fail to seal the two sub-assemblies and allow water intrusion.

Potential Risk:
Water in the BPMV may cause an electrical short circuit and increase the risk of fire.
FREE Recall Solution:
Owners are advised to park outside and away from other structures until the recall repair is completed. Dealers will replace the BPMV assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 20, 2021. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. Defect Description:

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

This truck has had ongoing issues with the braking system. From the point of purchase Ive noted and informed the dealer of a very soft brake pedal pressure, and its gotten to the point where the brakes have to be pumped to get enough braking power to stop the vehicle at lower speeds, at highway speeds the vehicle is not able to stop in an emergency braking situation without pumping the brake pedal to build pressure, and especially when loaded or towing a load under the recommended gvwr. This problem is magnified by the fact that since day one the rear brakes have been wearing at a much greater rate than the front brakes. As indicated by the vehicles on board diagnostics display. This has gotten to the point where the rear rotors are warped and the rear brakes stick at a stop and you can feel the release when you apply the throttle. This vehicle has had to have the rear end rebuilt not just once but now going on the second time. A GM engineer that came to look at the truck avoided addressing the brake issue after the dealership requested General Motors assistance from their tech and then engineering department. This vehicles braking system represents a great risk for injury and or accident in its present condition, and the dealer Bradley Chevrolet Lake Havasu City Arizona as well as General Motors Customer Care Dept. has been made aware of this and has yet to take any action. This incident started back in Nov 22 and has been ongoing.... I believe this vehicle in its current state reflects a clear and present danger if driven .

STRUCTURE:BODY

Potential Consequences:

The tailgate, repeatedly came open on the freeway at freeway speeds, towing a trailer, the tailgate came down on top of the trailer mechanism causing damage to the tail gate as well as the tailgate trim. There was no way to secure tailgate and keep it from opening intermittently. Once I could I took it to the dealership and they acknowledged that the switch was malfunctioning as witnessed by a cell phone video that I took of it malfunctioning and attempting to unlock and open while parked. The dealership acknowledged that there was a recall to be issued and for the time being cut the wire to allow the tailgate to be opened by the hand switch and is only able to open by the remote.

Potential Consequences:

Even though electronic parking brake has NOT been set when parking, upon leaving from parking space, electronic parking brake engages and vehicle feels and sounds as though parking brake has been applied. My concern is that parking brake may engage while driving at speed and loss of vehicle control could occur. This problem is intermittent and has occurred 6 or 7 times during the month of February 2024. Vehicle has 6500 miles on it.

Potential Consequences:

I was almost run over by a Semi-Truck when entering the freeway because my 2022 Chevrolet Truck would not accelerate. I was told at the dealer the loss of power was intentionally caused by the onboard computer. It is programed by the manufacturer to do this anytime certain repairs may be needed. In my case, the life-threatening event I experienced took place because a sensor went out and the computer thought a repair was needed.

Potential Consequences:

The way this truck is designed is there is a 2 inch x 2 inch square metal framing piece that runs along the entire length of the truck. The opening to the pipe is NOT blocked off. The opening points up at the gap that exists between the tailgate and the bed of the truck when the tailgate is open. I had my keys on the tailgate and they slipped and fell - anywhere else they would have fell straight to the ground, but they happened to fall into this framing piece that does not have a cap or anything at all. AAA says this is the third one they've seen in my area this month. My safety concerns are twofold: 1. The keys are moving the entire length of that framing piece that extends the entire length of the truck. I am concerned that if they are close to the cab/front of the truck, my vehicle could be unlocked and potentially stolen until the keys are able to be retrieved. 2. If my keys (which are bulky) can fall in there, there is a significant concern that other debris like leaves, sticks, or anything in the bed off the truck can fall into that same space, as well as moisture/water. I am concerned that this will increase the likelyhood of rust occuring in the framing of the vehicle. I have reported my concerns to GM/Chevrolet and they are stating it is not their concern. They aren't even reviewing the videos that I took of the issue. The dealer has confirmed the location of the keys is in the framework of the truck. They are not addressing my concerns that this could cause early rust in the vehicle.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The transmission oil coolant rubs against the engine oil coolant line causing one or both lines to leak out. There are no warning lights when this happens, the vehicle will just stop accelerating. I was on the freeway pulling a trailer weighing about 9k pounds, traveling at about 75 mph when this happened to me. I was able to clear the traffic and limp off the freeway. The car was towed to Henson Chevrolet Buick GMC in Madisonville, TX. I contact my insurance company USAA and explained what happened they did not wish to look into it. The dealership is very vague when providing updates. I have been also working with a GM customer service rep. No one seems to really care about the safety issue. I have requested a detailed report of the issues and the repairs. The vehicle has been in the shop at the dealership since 8/13/2022.
