FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will inspect the seat belt retractor date codes and replace the seat belt retractors as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed May 23, 2025. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available. 292.9K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Apr 4, 2018
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 F-650 and F-750 vehicles equipped with 6-speed automatic transmissions and 2018 Ford F-150 and Expedition vehicles equipped with 10-speed automatic transmissions (excluding Expedition vehicles with a Rotary Gear Shift Dial on the console). The gear shift cable clip may not be properly seated, allowing the transmission to be in a different gear than indicated by the gear shift lever position.

Potential Risk:
If the gear shift cable clip becomes unseated or dislodged, the gear shift lever position may indicate that the transmission is in 'Park' when it may be in a different gear. Additionally, despite selecting 'Park', if the parking brake is not applied before the vehicle is exited, the vehicle may roll. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the shift cable locking clip and properly seat it, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on April 13, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for the recall is 18S10.
Additional Details:

Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Ford F-150 and 2018 Ford Expedition and Mustang and Lincoln Navigator vehicles equipped with 10-speed automatic transmissions. A roll pin may not have been installed in the transmission, potentially causing a loss of the "Park" function.

Potential Risk:
Despite the transmission shift lever being placed in 'Park' and the instrument panel display indicating 'Park,' the vehicle may roll away after it has been exited if the parking brake has not been applied, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the transmission to make sure it has the roll pin, installing one if it is missing, free of charge. The recall began on April 13, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S09.

Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles. The second row window control modules may intermittently stop the movement of the power window. If something, such as a finger, is pinched by the window glass, the stopped window control module may prevent the window from automatically reversing. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 118, "Power-Operated Window Systems."

Potential Risk:
If the window does not automatically reverse when an obstruction is found, it can increase the risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the second row window electronic control modules, and replace them as necessary based on their build date codes, free of charge. The recall began on February 16, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18C01.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

While coming to a stop, or already stopped with the Auto Start/Stop system engaged, the vehicle will completely shut down and the message "Auto StartStop Shift to P, then Restart Engine" pops up. After doing that the engine restarts normally. AGM battery was recently replaced and engine starting is strong. This has happened around 3-4 times in the last few weeks, and normally occurs when the engine is still cold in the first couple miles of driving (although temps have been very mild, in the 60's or 70's). I have tried contacting two Ford dealers in my area but both have been unresponsive. One said they can't even take appointments related to powertrain in the next several months and the other will not call me back after leaving repeated messages. Thankfully this has only occurred while stopped or coming to a stop in traffic, but could also happen while making a turn into oncoming traffic.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

my transmission shifted from first gear to second gear very hard causing the vehicle to lunge. My daughter is a new driver and it scared her so much that she stopped in traffic at a stop sign and I thought the vehicle was hit. my dash cam even recorded it as a possible collision (no one hit us just jerked that bad). I have only owned it for a month and when I took it to the dealer that I bought it from they said Ford knows they have a problem and it sucks. (dealerships words) I had no lamps or warnings come on at the time of the event. when I changed driving modes the vehicle went completely out of gear and would not go back into gear until I shut it down and started it back up.

Potential Consequences:

The rear evaporator has reportedly failed and is causing a leak to the refrigerant. We have read the TSB 21-2250 and the earlier Customer Satisfaction Program 18N01 which both point to what is reportedly a common issue for these systems. Safety concern is overall heat in vehicle. At the same time we are experiencing a leak of coolant, and the Ford dealership is recommending replacement of pump. The dealer is also recommending the replacement of rear evaporator and recharge of the refrigerant. The cooling fan was running full blast which was our warning of checking low coolant, there was no warning lights of any issues. As there have been multiple TSB type of issues, as a customer this seems like a known issue that Ford should be paying to have fixed.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

About 20 times now, while I am on the freeway, sometimes when I am coasting, and other times when I am trying to quickly accelerate, my car down shifts out of nowhere and loses power, again either when I am in the fast lane coasting, or trying to merge into traffic. It's like it is going to stall and when I step on the gas, it just revs and doesn't get into gear and go. I have almost been rear ended because I go from 70 to like 40 mph. When I was trying to merge into traffic, I got partially into the other lane and then it just wouldn't go. I could easily have been hit. One time when I was coasting and it did it, a warning came on, and then a check manual, but it went away too fast. I have taken it to the dealer and a repair shop multiple times and they can't replicate it. It could definitely cause an accident as my car suddenly slows down and it won't accelerate. I have to wait about 10-15 seconds until it reengages. It makes aloud clunking/dropping sound as if I ran over something and one time it sounded like a million pebbles were inside my engine and under my car. No diagnostic numbers are coming up and it's like no one knows what I am talking about. But multiple Fords are having this issue and they are not doing anything about it. I took it in during my warranty and now it's out of warranty and I'm going to have to pay for something that they should have repaired from the get go. This is dangerous.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Random gear shifts lead to dangerous changes in speed during normal driving. Example-Driving in 8th gear transmission shifted to 2nd and then jumped back to 6th gear causing near loss of control. Other times transmission sticks in-between gear resulting in a loss of power during driving. Dealer and independent service center have reproduced problem. Replaced value body per Ford's recommendation which did not fix the problem. Vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance representative or manufacturer. Powertrain warning light did come on but after these issues were affecting the vehicle.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Vehicle with 80k miles. Transmission stuck in 2nd gear resulted in safety issue when merging with traffic. When this occurs the engine revs and then the transmission jumps into 8th gear. Once in 8th gear it is very slow to accelerate. If there’s any reason I need to decelerate, the transmission remains in 8th gear and will not shift back to 1st gear even if at a complete stop. Have been stopped at a traffic light and had to place the vehicle back in park and shut the engine off so the transmission will reset back to 1st.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

If I have to decelerate and then quickly accelerate the car will lose power and restart. This typically happens when I’m driving on the highway in heavy traffic. I originally thought there was problem with the transmission because it would downshift to 5th gear and clunk (feels like the tranny fell off). It would then try and put itself into park and then power down and restart. The only error code ever given is a parking paw error. This makes sense because transmissions aren’t supposed to go into park at 70mph. Lately the vehicle is sluggish and doesn’t respond as I try to accelerate which leads to the shut down restart while moving. I recently read about the class action lawsuit and recall regarding ford throttle bodies in F-150s. The incidents in those reports mirror what I’ve experienced.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Transmission seems to get stuck in 2nd and 8-9 gear when driving and I have lost all ability to accelerate at both slow and high speeds. I am able to see the gear it gets stuck in since there is a visual on what gear the vehicle is in on the dashboard. When it appears to be stuck in a gear, if you hit the gas it does not respond and you lose your speed. RPMs increase. After a delay which there is no acceleration, it then kicks into the next gear with a large jolt that shakes the whole vehicle pretty harshly. I have expressed to Ford Corporation my concerns on safety and no one was behind me during the times this has happened. If there was someone behind me I feel that I could have easily get hit from behind especially at the higher rates of speed. SUV is currently at the dealer since the first 2 service bulletins have not corrected the issue. I have been dealing with this for almost 3 months.
