292.9K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Apr 4, 2018
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 F-650 and F-750 vehicles equipped with 6-speed automatic transmissions and 2018 Ford F-150 and Expedition vehicles equipped with 10-speed automatic transmissions (excluding Expedition vehicles with a Rotary Gear Shift Dial on the console). The gear shift cable clip may not be properly seated, allowing the transmission to be in a different gear than indicated by the gear shift lever position.

Potential Risk:
If the gear shift cable clip becomes unseated or dislodged, the gear shift lever position may indicate that the transmission is in 'Park' when it may be in a different gear. Additionally, despite selecting 'Park', if the parking brake is not applied before the vehicle is exited, the vehicle may roll. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the shift cable locking clip and properly seat it, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on April 13, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for the recall is 18S10.

Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Ford F-150 and 2018 Ford Expedition and Mustang and Lincoln Navigator vehicles equipped with 10-speed automatic transmissions. A roll pin may not have been installed in the transmission, potentially causing a loss of the "Park" function.

Potential Risk:
Despite the transmission shift lever being placed in 'Park' and the instrument panel display indicating 'Park,' the vehicle may roll away after it has been exited if the parking brake has not been applied, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the transmission to make sure it has the roll pin, installing one if it is missing, free of charge. The recall began on April 13, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S09.

Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles. The second row window control modules may intermittently stop the movement of the power window. If something, such as a finger, is pinched by the window glass, the stopped window control module may prevent the window from automatically reversing. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 118, "Power-Operated Window Systems."

Potential Risk:
If the window does not automatically reverse when an obstruction is found, it can increase the risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the second row window electronic control modules, and replace them as necessary based on their build date codes, free of charge. The recall began on February 16, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18C01.

Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Expedition vehicles. The second row outboard seats may have excessive forward adjustment capability and/or may have an improperly installed bolt that secures the seat back to the seat base. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 202a, "Head Restraints", number 207, "Seating Systems", and number 210, "Seat Belt Anchorage System."

Potential Risk:
If the seat back is not adequately secured, and/or the seat occupant is improperly positioned, there can be an increased risk of injury in a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the second row outboard seats for proper seat adjustment travel, replacing the seat frame assembly if necessary. Potential Consequences:

The transmission would slip and not go into gear. Causing me to stall in the middle of intersections. This occurred multiple times and if I took my foot off the gas it woudl catch and I could go again. Dealership told me it could be PCM issue and was not able to see me until December of 2021. At the end of October it suddenly became almost undriveable and was limped to dealership. It was determined that the gear ratio for the 3rd gear was incorrect and at 67,318 miles and 4 years old it needs a new transmission.

SUSPENSION

Potential Consequences:

When I drove a little bit uneven highway overpass about 50mph with family, three teenagers and my wife, I saw the rear bounces back a lot, almost lost control of the vehicle. Next day, I took it to local Ford Service and they say the rear structs and shocks were completely worn out, and need to be replaced. It has only highway mileage of only just over 20,000miles. Actually they were talking about leaking of oil through the seals and technician showed all four struts were leaking, rears much worse. The vehicle just passed 3 year warranty period by two months, and technician suggested the leakage had been there long before the factory warranty expired. So disappointed with Ford. This was my first Ford and will be the last.

SUSPENSION

Potential Consequences:

We have put roughly 20,000 miles on this vehicle and were putting new tires on, when the technician showed me that all four struts were leaking. This vehicle is not driven excessively, it is primarily for short trips around the city and is not used in heavy traffic. A quick search identifies that this is a known issue, with multiple people identifying there concern. There are multiple several complaints on the NHTSA website. So after paying out of pocket, I called Ford to see if they would offer reimbursement. I received a call back from an extremely rude individual informing me that Ford will not reimburse me because there are no active recalls. After I explained that there are multiple complaints about this same issue she stated that Ford does not issue recalls and only the NHTSA will do that. Therefore, I am requesting the NHTSA look into this issue.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The vehicle "chatters" when starting first thing in the morning and sometimes after it sits for a few hours(when engine has had time to cool down). It started about two months ago. We recently took our Expedition to an independent mechanic to have it checked over prior to a road trip. Their diagnosis was a loose timing chain and their recommendation was to take it to a licensed Ford dealership. I contacted three local Ford dealerships and their estimated next available service dates were between 4 and 6 weeks. Plus they are having problems getting some parts. We bought vehicle used with 68,000 miles and did not buy extended service plan. We currently have 95,000 and local dealer advised this repair is not covered by Ford even though Ford Issued TSB 21-2119 acknowledging the problem and recommended fix.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Electrical fire under hood occurred spontaneously. Just before my vehicle shut off the dash board read something about to conserve battery shut engine off. Pulled over got out of car and it burned . Insurance agent is investigating. Sherriff and fireman said it was electrical fire under hood. Had I not decided to pull over at rest stop when I did we would have been on freeway when it ignited.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The Fuel filler assembly on our 2018 Ford Expedition broke while filling the vehicle with fuel, causing the entire fuel filler assembly to pop out of the side of the vehicle. The parts appear to be made of weak plastic and/or may be caused by poor design execution. The concern is that this defect could cause fuel to leak out of the assembly and/or the broken parts may render the vehicle unable to be filled with fuel and leave the driver stranded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed the issue and ordered replacement parts.

I PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY TAKING A LEFT AND AS I PRESSED THE GAS TO ACCELERATE UP THE HILL IT SEEMED AS THOUGH MY CAR WENT INTO NEUTRAL. IT WOULD NOT GO. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND WAITED A SECOND OR TWO AND THEN PUSHED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR AGAIN AND THEN THE CAR TOOK OFF AS NORMAL. SINCE THAT FIRST TIME THIS SITUATION HAS BEGUN HAPPENING ALMOST DAILY SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND OF COURSE THEY CAN NEVER GET IT TO DUPLICATE WHAT IT DOES TO ME. CONCERNING TO ME IS IF THIS HAPPENS WHEN I PULL INTO TRAFFIC AND CAN'T GET OUT OF THE WAY OF AN ONCOMING VEHICLE.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

UNDER WARRANTY, MOISTURE WAS PRESENT IN ALL THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS. THE UPPER (THIRD) BRAKE LIGHT HAD THE MOST CONDENSATION. AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER REVIEWED THE ISSUE AND ADVISED FORD DOES NOT COVER MOISTURE WITHIN A LIGHT AS THE MOISTURE WILL DISSIPATE OVER TIME. I ADVISED THE UPPER BRAKE LIGHT WAS NEVER DRY, THEY INSISTED WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE ISSUE. I COULD REPLACE THE LIGHT, I RECEIVED A QUOTE AT THAT TIME. NOW THE UPPER BRAKE LIGHT HAS LESS THAN 2 LED'S WORKING AND THE VISIBILITY IS NEXT TO NOTHING. REVIEWING FORUMS, THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN PRESENT IN THE FORD EXPEDITIONS SINCE THE NEW VEHICLE DESIGN CHANGE. MY CONCERN IS VERY SIMPLE, THAT BRAKE LIGHT IS IMPORTANT IN THE SAFETY OF OUR PASSENGERS, THOSE AROUND THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE ITSELF. WE HAVE NOT BEEN IN A REAR END COLLISION WITH THIS VEHICLE, BUT IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE BRAKING OF THIS VEHICLE AHEAD WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ONE CAR AHEAD OF YOU BASED ON WHAT I HAVE SEEN WHEN DRIVING BEHIND THIS VEHICLE MYSELF. I CONSIDER THIS BRAKE LIGHT A SIGNIFICANT COMPONENT OF THE SAFETY FEATURES IN OUR VEHICLE. TIMING OF THE ISSUE WAS OVER A PERIOD OF TIME. FIRST PHASE WAS MOISTURE NOT DISSIPATING, SECOND PHASE HAS BEEN THE LED LIGHTING CONTINUES TO STOP WORKING, A FEW LED'S AT FIRST, NOW ONLY A FEW ARE OPERATIONAL, AND DIM AT BEST DUE TO THE CONTINUED MOISTURE IN THE UPPER REAR BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY.

Potential Consequences:

WE HAVE A 20018 FORD EXPEDITION PLATINUM, 2WD (REAR WHEEL DRIVE). BOUGHT BRAND NEW. FOR THE PAST MONTH WE'VE BEEN HAVING WHAT SEEMS LIKE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. CAR HAS 45,000 MILES ON IT. A FEW TIMES A DAY THE TRANSMISSION FAILS TO SHIFT AT ALL; ESSENTIALLY GOES IN-BETWEEN GEARS, REVS HIGH, BUT ABSOLUTELY NO MOVEMENT. USUALLY SOON AFTER MOVING FROM A START, SO MAYBE 2ND TO 3RD GEAR OR 3RD TO 4TH GEAR. IT HAPPENS WITHOUT ANY WARNING. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CARE BEING HOT OR COLD. IT IS VERY SCARY BECAUSE ONE OF THE TIMES, I HAD PULLED OUT FROM A GAS STATION ONTO A HIGHWAY, ACCELERATING NORMALLY TO KEEP UP WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC WITH I LOST ALL POWER TO THE WHEELS. ENGINE CONTINUED REVVING. THERE WAS NO TIRE SLIPPING - JUST NO MOVEMENT WHATSOEVER. TOOK IT INTO THE FORD DEALER (GOLDEN CIRCLE FORD) IN JACKSON TN WHERE THEY EVALUATED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEY APPARENTLY PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND DROVE IT; AND WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY GAVE ME A RIDICULOUS EXPLANATION THAT THE VEHICLE IS 'LEARNING' (AKA "ADAPTING") TO MY DRIVING STYLE AND THAT IT WAS NORMAL BEHAVIOR. THAT WAS LAST WEEK. SINCE THEN, THE SHIFTING BETWEEN LOW GEARS HAS BECOME SOMEONE ROUGHER/ WITH SOME HESITANCY. I DID RESEARCH THESE VEHICLE AND APPARENTLY THERE MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH THE 10 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS NOW BEING USED IN THE F150 TRUCKS WITH MANY PEOPLE DESCRIBING SIMILAR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THERE IS A POTENTIAL ISSUE, THAT CAN ALSO BE VERY DANGEROUS IF THE CAR STOPS MOVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THANK YOU.

I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THERE IS A POTENTIAL ISSUE, THAT CAN ALSO BE VERY DANGEROUS IF THE CAR STOPS MOVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THANK YOU.

OUR 208 FORD EXPEDITION PLATINUM 4X4 PUTS OUT A VERY HIGH AMOUNT OF CARBON MONOXIDE, TO THE POINT THAT IT MAKES MY CHILDREN SICK. AFTER VERY LITTLE RESEARCH, IT APPEARS AS THOUGH OUR VEHICLE IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAD WITH THEIR FORD EXPLORERS.

I UNDERSTAND THE WELDS FOR HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP MAY FRACTURE. I HAVE ALREADY HAD REPAIRED, RUNNING ROUGH ON START UP PLUS WHITE SMOKE FROM TAIL PIPE.
