Defect Description:
AIR BAGS
Potential Consequences:
The airbag warning light was enabled on the dashboard. The Ford dealer diagnosed this as code "DTC U2100:00 and B00A0:62-28 stored in RCM". I was told that Ford told the dealer to reprogram the RCM with new software and this was labor "not covered by warranty or recall." But, if my car were one model year later (2018 vs 2017) it would have been covered. I argued that this is a software defect, clearly the hardware did not fail since they did not have to replace anything, but I was simply told the labor was not covered and I would need to pay for it. After the software update the error codes and airbag light are normal. There is clearly a software defect impacting the safety performance of the vehicle. This vehicle should be recalled and the cost of the update and labor should not be a burden to the consumer. Consumers, such as me, who have had to pay for this work should be reimbursed by Ford.
