Recall Date: Jun 5, 2017
Safety Issue:

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2017 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch actuating cable may corrode and bind, causing the secondary hood latch to remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.

Potential Risk:
If the hood is not securely closed or the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the secondary latch cable, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owner's may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for the recall is 163.

AIR BAGS

Potential Consequences:

I believe it is a clock spring failure. The airbag light is on & the buttons on the steering wheel do not work. I searched it & have seen several posts of others having same issue. I really feel this should be looked into, cause this is highly unsafe to be driving around with what very well could be an airbag that doesn't deploy & could seriously hurt drivers. Also, the contact stated the vehicle uses 5 quarts of oil within a 2 week period.

Potential Consequences:

Upon checking my oil, I realized it was consuming at a high rate. The car dealership said there was no problem with the car. A couple months later I took it to a Hyundai dealership and they said the same thing. Now I am 6 months into owning this vehicle. Same issue. I am putting 4 qt of oil in my vehicle a month. Google said there was recalls on my year for a bad crankshaft that was causing this issue. I called the Hyundai dealership again. They said there is no recall for my vin number. I am having the same problem described. Oil consumption at a high rate. Which is wearing down the bearings in the crankshaft, causing the over consumption. I was told because my SUV wasn't on the recall list, there was nothing they could do until it is put on the list.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Potential Consequences:

MY ISSUE - When making turns at night with the low beam headlights on automatic and switching on the left turn signal the headlights go out for up to 30 seconds then come back on. this is very dangerous when driving in rural or low light areas. Possible headlight switch issue. TAKEN FROM THE INTERNET - I have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson and last year this problem only happened once, but now it has been going on for the past 3 consecutive days. If I have my headlights on or on auto and I use the left signal, the headlights turn off. Only the left, not the right. The display on my dash displays the lights going to off and back to auto or on when the signal has been activated and then stopped

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport's engine oil light comes on within just a month or two of an oil change. Hyundai service shop told me that my car was possibly burning oil. I learned that this is a common issue with some Hyundai's and Kia's when the vehicles reach around 90,000 miles. Mine began burning oil at around 88,000 miles. I went through what they call the Oil Consumption Test for three months. That resulted in them replacing my engine under warranty, thank goodness. I didn't feel safe for three months knowing that my car was burning oil. It seems this is a common issue that may warrant an investigation and/or possible recall.

Corrective Action:

My 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport's engine oil light comes on within just a month or two of an oil change. Hyundai service shop told me that my car was possibly burning oil. I learned that this is a common issue with some Hyundai's and Kia's when the vehicles reach around 90,000 miles. Mine began burning oil at around 88,000 miles. I went through what they call the Oil Consumption Test for three months. That resulted in them replacing my engine under warranty, thank goodness. Defect Description:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My car began leaking oil. Hyundai said the oil pan was cracked. They indicated this is not under 100,000 miles/10 year warranty. The issue occurred shortly after they did an oil change. It seems since oil leaks of this type are a safety issue, and the cracked oil pan is a common issue, that it may need to be investigated.

Defect Description:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Vehicle is burning oil at an alarmingly higher amount than it should. Have filled the oil twice in the last month due to it being low. Have been tracking the oil levels for the past month and it is quickly losing oil (no stains in the driveway, white smoke out of the tailpipe, no oil splatter inside the engine compartment). Have been taking pictures of the dipstick while checking it regularly.
