Potential Consequences:
I was using the access road to get on the highway but when I tried to accelerate the car was slow to accelerate and I almost got hit by other cars. I don’t know what happened but now I have a steady check engine light. When I called a mechanic he said I have a TSB from 2021 for the Dual Clutch but I didn’t see anything for this and my SaferCar app doesn’t mentions it either.

Defect Description:
POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
I am writing to report a serious issue with my 2017 Hyundai Tucson SEL 2.0 that poses potential safety risks. The vehicle is consuming more than 4 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles, which is far beyond normal and acceptable levels. The car has approximately 166,000 miles on it and has been regularly maintained, including timely oil changes. Despite proper maintenance, this excessive oil consumption leads to frequent low-oil warnings, risking sudden engine failure if not continuously monitored. This creates an unsafe driving condition, particularly on highways or during long trips, as the engine could seize without warning. Additionally, I am aware that many other owners of Hyundai vehicles with similar engines have reported comparable issues. This suggests a widespread defect in the engine design or manufacturing process. I am requesting the NHTSA to investigate this matter further to determine if a recall, warranty extension, or other corrective action is necessary to address this issue. Hyundai should be held accountable for resolving this problem, especially since it compromises the safety and reliability of the vehicle. Vehicle Information: Year: 2017 Make: Hyundai Model: Tucson SEL Engine: 2.0L VIN: [Your Vehicle Identification Number here] Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope for a prompt investigation and resolution to ensure the safety of all Hyundai Tucson owners.

Potential Consequences:
My transmission has failed fully. It cannot even reverse. I took my car into Hyundai several times to check on the issue and they said the same thing, that the transmission slipping is a standard issue for dual clutch. I told them over and over that this is different. I did some research as to how to have them cover it and have it changed but the dealership said nothings wrong. Fast forward and now my cars transmission is fully gone and it probably won’t be covered when I know that it should have been part of the recall ! Just this year I’ve spent $5000 on repairs for this vehicle and now I’m looking at another $5000 for only a 7 year old vehicle. If that does not constitute a lemon I don’t know what does.

Potential Consequences:
Car is using an abnormally large amount of oil. I reported to Hyundai. They sent me to a Hyundai dealership for an Oil Consumption Test. They confirmed that I do not have an oil leak under the automobile. The dealer is telling me “it’s completely NORMAL TO BURN THROUGH 1 QUART OF OIL FOR EVERY 1,000 MILES”. That would leave my automobile with only two quarts of oil after driving 3,000 miles. The owner’s manual does not state any of this. Now I am paying a significant amount of money on Oil Consumption Tests of which they are telling me I might need several before they MIGHT fix the problem. This 2017 Hyundai Tucson is one of the models and years affected.

Potential Consequences:
The engine developed a knocking sound at 97,018 miles. When it was checked, it did not have any oil in it at all, regardless of there not being an oil leak in the system. The car received regular service. When we took it to Hyundai they did a test and confirmed that it was burning oil. This engine malfunction put my [XXX] daughter, the primary driver, at risk for engine failure while driving it. The engine light and knocking sound happened with no warning. Yes, the problem was confirmed by the Reed Hyundai of Kansas City. They told us that the car needs a new engine and that they bear no responsibility for the malfunction. Potential Consequences:
The car suddenly stopped accelerating. There were no signs that something was wrong prior. I was driving on the highway when I felt a loss of power, then my check engine light started blinking. The car entered “limp mode” and the engine started knocking. The code it was showing was for a knock sensor, I replaced that and it still would not accelerate. There is something wrong with the rod bearings and I was told by the dealership that this is a common problem with the type of engine they use in these vehicles.
