Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
The vehicle completely lost power while driving. My wife came down a dirt road hill, made a left onto [XXX] in Duxbury, VT, heard a "clunk" from below the car, and experienced total power loss. An error flashed on the screen that read "Critical Battery System" and then, soon after, "Stop Car Immediately." She was able to coast 1/4 mile (downhill) to a school parking lot. The car was towed to a dealership where the dealer replaced the inverter (ICCU) and the paperwork stated "DC/DC Converter input voltage sensor fault." The car had 25,896 miles on it when the incident occurred. The total power loss was extremely dangerous, and we were lucky it did not occur on a highway at a higher speed with more cars in proximity. I see online that NHSTA had previous reports of this issue both with the EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Was driving to go pick up one of my kids later at night. Was roughly 1/2 mile from home driving about 40 mph when I heard a pop / noise on the rear passenger side. Was unsure if I had rolled over something or what. Shortly after that (few seconds later), the "Check Electrical System" came on. Since I was close to home, I elected to turn around to go home since I could conduct a fairly easy turn around near the sub-division. Before I did that, the car then noted "Limited Power" and came up with the Turtle icon. The speed was restricted to 25 mph. This continued for roughly several hundred feet. At that point, a second warning noting a critical issue came up and the speed was further restricted to 12 mph. I was able to go through the 4-way stop sign, continued to drive under the restricted speed. I was able to turn on my hazards and wave several people past me as I drove extremely slowly home (12 mph on a 35 mph road). I did arrive to my house and pulled up into the driveway where I was able to park the car. The vehicle was at roughly 65% charge when I had started the trip. As per the recommendation of the dealership, I had the vehicle towed using Kia's Roadside Assistance to the dealership the next day. The vehicle was unable to start or even turn on. The tow truck was able to use a battery pack on the 12V battery to be able to activate the car to shift it to neutral for towing.

Potential Consequences:
While driving along the courtney Campbell causeway there was a loud explosion shaking the car out of control. I was able to pull off the road and inspect the roof, where the exploding sound occurred. I found the glass panoramic sunroof had fractured and was gone from the vehicle. There was only the perimeter of the glass roof remaining. I have filed an incident report with the city of Clearwater and my passenger and I were both seen at Mease Countryside ER. The vehicle is still in my possession.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Driving South on Route 15 in Gettysburg Area on 11-22-2023 I got a warning message on my dash which read “check electric vehicle system”. The warning disappeared off the dash and we continued to drive a bit further. The warning light illuminated once again and I started to look for a pull off area. Not long after the warning appeared the second time a bigger warning came on the dash and directed me to pull over and stop. We fortunately were able to get into the right lane and pull off the road. We were headed to Northern VA and would have been on a number of multi-lane roads where if a dead vehicle is stranded in high traffic area with speeds exceeding 60 to 80 miles per hour could have resulted in a catastrophe with a car that just goes dead. Remember there is no warning except for the dash warning and a few seconds until the car died. This problem is well know and documented all over the Internet and KIA has done nothing about it. 11-22-2023 At 10:33 AM we called the KIA hot line and explained what had happened to the KIA representative. He secured a tow truck. At dealer on 12-27-22 for charging problem. At dealer on 8-10-23 to have ICCU check 11-22-2023 At 12:38 PM we received a call from the tow truck driver and ask where we were located. We got to the dealer but they couldn’t get the car off of the roll back tow truck because it had lost all power to the car and wouldn't unlock doors, release the parking brake etc. I suggested to the service advisor that the battery needed a jump or battery pack to energize the car enough to get it off the truck. That did work and pulled the car to the rear parking area. I told the service advisor about all of the complaints on the Internet about EV6’s stopping dead in the middle of the road causing some very dangerous conditions. He said the dealership had not heard anything about it. I have no loaner car and car has been sitting for 20 days waiting on parts that were probably not upgraded from the original part.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Potential Consequences:
This has happened multiple times: driving along, no cars in front of me or along the side. FCW suddenly appears along with emergency braking kicking in. I can be doing 35 mph or 60 mph, doesn't matter what speed. Scares the heck out of me, and creates a safety issue as vehicles behind run the risk of rear-ending me. The only way to clear the FCW is to come to a complete stop and shift between P and go. For some reason, it also sets off one of my blind spot warnings, lighting up in the sideview mirror on either driver or passenger side. I've mentioned this to dealer, they say there are no codes in the computer, and they don't seem to have a way to diagnose what the problem is (software? bad sensor or camera? ...) other than keeping the car for days and trying to recreate the problem. NOTE: date below is last time it happened...its happened at least 15 times in the past 6 months.

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
The driver's side USB-A wiring harness repeatedly (though intermittently) drops connection between a properly connected iPhone and the native infotainment system, causing a "drop-out" of Apple CarPlay connectivity. The safety concerns associated with this are most acute when using Apple CarPlay-based navigation systems, as the native infotainment system stops displaying Apple Car-Play navigation, and begins searching for a USB-A connection with display "Reading USB." This sometimes remedies itself, with return to Apple CarPlay display but often requires physical reconnection of the USB-A cable. This level of manual manipulation of the infotainment system has caused me to lose navigation capabilities mid-trip and frequently takes my attention away from safely navigating the vehicle, especially when in urban traffic. The problem is persistent across multiple phones, multiple cables (including brand new Apple-branded cables), and other USB-A hardware external to the vehicle's infotainment system. The problem is well documented in multiple online owners' forums (see links below), and appears to be experienced in the similarly engineered/equipped Hyundai Ioniq 5. In my experience, Kia dealers have difficulty recreating the issue, as it is intermittent. Even when they are able to recreate the issue, they are unwilling to perform service, as neither Kia nor Hyundai have developed related technical service bulletins documenting or addressing this issue despite its persistence over multiple years since the cars' release. This presents an ongoing and unaddressed safety risk to Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 drivers. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
While driving in a major thoroughfare, a red warning came on to check the electrical system, and that propulsion power may be limited. We pulled over to a parking area and consulted the manual. It suggested turning the engine off and back on again - we did so, but the warning remained. We determined that we were 2-4mi from our Kia dealer. Based on the manual information, we believed we would be able to drive at a slow speed and selected a route towards the dealer that avoided the highway. However then the 'turtle' warning light came on and we we were reduced to walking pace. We pulled into a side road, but were unable to pull over completely before we lost all motion. We activated the warning lights, but after a minute or so there was not even sufficient power for those. This was a rainy day with not great visibility. We feel lucky and this could have been so much more dangerous. We had to redirect cars around us while we waited for towing. The vehicle was at the dealer for a voluntary service campaign the previous month related to the ICCU. The online version of the EV6 2022 manual has different instructions - it says to refrain from driving and have the vehicle towed. We would have followed those instructions.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
The vehicle throws a "charge interrupted" error on any Level 2 AC chargers and stops charging within few minutes of starting charge. The charging occurs only for 10~15minutes and immediately stops. The issue has been persistent since 3-4 months now and consistent on every charging session. I have to unplug and replug the charger multiple times to be able to complete charging. This also happened to me on a DCFC 150kW charger as well.
