Defect Description:
SUSPENSION
Potential Consequences:
I was informed by a Nissan dealership over 3 years ago that both inner tie rods on my 2017 Nissan Rogue have play in them. The vehicle had less then 30,000 miles on it and was never in an accident nor was it ever driven off roads. They told me it would cost over $2,000.00 to make the repair because the tie rods were part of the power steering rack. In other words to replace the inner tie rods they had to replace the power steering rack as well. The vehicle was manufactured in Korea. I complained that this failure in the tie rods had to be a manufacturing defect but Nissan refused to cover the repair because my three year new car warranty expired. I just recently read that the NHTSA in August 5th of 2024 began an investigation on this matter with the 2021 model year Nissan Rogue SUV. I believe this matter is just not for the 2021 model year but at least model year 2017.

Defect Description:
AIR BAGS
Potential Consequences:
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The airbag system in my 2017 Nissan Rogue malfunctioned. The airbag warning light turned on, indicating a potential failure in the system. The vehicle and its components are available for inspection if needed. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The malfunctioning airbag system compromises the vehicle's ability to deploy airbags in the event of a collision, putting my safety and the safety of others at risk. If the airbags do not deploy correctly during an accident, it could lead to severe injuries or even fatalities. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the problem has been confirmed by a Nissan dealership. They informed me that the airbag system malfunctioned due to a defect in the sensor, and they recommended a repair costing approximately $4,000. However, they stated that the repair would not be covered under warranty. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has been inspected by a Nissan dealership, which confirmed the issue with the airbag system. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance representatives, or other independent service centers. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, the airbag warning light turned on, indicating a malfunction in the system. This warning light first appeared approximately a week ago.

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
Radiator cooling fan defect that causes safety hazards and costly repairs. There's even an active class action claim filed against Nissan in Tennessee federal court Case No.[XXX]. My vehicle has been inspected by an independent service center who agreed and acknowledged the shop has experienced multiple customers who've had the same issue and repairs needed, with 2016-2020 Nissans especially. The dealership itself quoted $1800 for repairs! I'm a pretty proactive person, so caught the issue before my engine overheated and any warning lights turned on, but noticed when the radiator fan stopped turning once car was idled. Just want to make NHTSA aware of this ongoing issue and danger this can potentially be for Nissan consumers. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
The transmission on my 2017 Nissan Rogue is failing. I was driving from Queens, New York towards my home in New Jersey with my 10 year old nephew. There was a lot of stop and go traffic. Once I got into Manhattan, I noticed my car was having a hard time accelerating. The RPMs would go up to 4 but my car wouldn't go pass 40 miles on the speedometer. I pulled over to the side and turned off and turned on my car to try to reset it. It worked and I was able to continue driving. However, when I got to the Lincoln Tunnel entrance, the same issue was happening. Because it was stop and go traffic. I decided to again turn off and turn on my car. This time, when I tried turning it on, the car wouldn't turn on. I attempted it again and on the 3rd try, I was able to get it started, the check engine light came on, but the car drove fine until I got home. I took it to the dealership the next day, and they told me the transmission is failing and it would cost me $6200 to replace it. I asked if there was a recall on it, they said there was but my warranty expired. I thought the warranty was extended for another 10 years. Is this not the case? I'm confused by what I'm reading online. Is my dealership required to replace my transmission at no cost? This is a pretty dangerous situation as I don't feel safe driving my car anymore, it was especially scary since I had my nephew with me.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
Car stops accelerating when the engine get hot. It happens all the time. I was not made aware of any issues with the car when I purchase it . This apparently is a known issue and a teenager drives the car. Mechanic states the whole transmission needs to be replaced.

Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
My daughters vehicle 2017 Nissan Rogue has been jerking for months now. No check engine has been on. I have been told it is likely a transmission problem After doing some research this has been an ongoing problem with the Nissan Rogue but no recall has been issued in the state of Oklahoma. It also doesn’t help that it has over 100,000 miles now. This is not an affordable fix but Nissan needs to fix it and others who are having the issue before someone gets hurt or it causes accidents If a recall and settlement has been made in other states all states should have been included Nissan knew this was a problem and failed to handle it accordingly
